`MONTEREY COUNTY – The Transportation Agency for Monterey County announced that the winners of the “2nd Annual Commute Challenge” have been selected and noted that collectively participants made nearly 4,000 smart commute trips and saved over $12,000 during the challenge.
In recognition of the Agency’s Go831 Smart Commute Program, the Transportation Agency presented the countywide challenge from October 1st through October 31st, with the City of Monterey employees earning the first-place win in the employer category.
The Challenge asked participants to choose a “smart commute” option, such as carpooling, walking, biking, public transit or telecommuting at least once during the month rather than driving alone to work or college. The challenge was open to employers, individuals and teams. By simply eliminating a few drive-alone trips, participants in this year’s “Go831 Smart Commute Challenge” logged a total of 3,905 smart commute trips, burned an average of 0.3 million calories and saved 8.7 tons of CO2 gas emissions by not driving alone.
